"Five songs in, I pulled off the road… The songs had stirred something in me and I felt the need to understand. I was soon on the road again, enclosed in a world Mure had made. While my eyes were awake and alert, my soul was wrapped in a warm cocoon." -No Depression New York City native Emily Mure has journeyed from playing concert halls as a classically trained oboist to busking as a singer-songwriter on the streets of Ireland. Her third album, Worth (September 22, 2017), brings together all of her rich experiences as a musical traveler, spotlighting both her technical ability and gift for vulnerable, heartfelt songwriting. Mure co-produced the album with Dan Cardinal (Darlingside, Josh Ritter, Ballroom Thieves), with Zachariah Hickman (Josh Ritter, Ray LaMontagne) performing the majority of instruments on this record. Jeff Lipton (Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver) mastered the album in Boston. Mure’s songwriting, which she began cultivating during her years at Ithaca College, has been recognized in prestigious national competitions (Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival) and has been featured on networks including NBC, ABC and PBS. Stomp is a joyful, witty and wordless show that has been seen all over the world. An eight-member cast with energy to burn creates beautiful music and sly humor with found objects: Zippo lighters, push brooms, wooden poles, hammer handles, garbage cans, inner tubes, matchboxes—and yes, even the kitchen sink. There’s no traditional narrative; both household and industrial objects find new life as musical instruments in this unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy. It is a journey through sound, a celebration of the everyday and a comic interplay of characters wordlessly communicating through dance and drum.
"Powers is something of an anomaly. She’s like the music scene’s version of the protagonist in the film, "The Natural," having spent the "prime of her career" out of the spotlight — in her case, tending to her family — only to return from absolutely nowhere to wow and amaze. Where Robert Redford made all the fans sit up and cheer with mammoth home runs, Kerri Powers is going to make people listening to this album do the exact same thing with exceptional song writing and equally exceptional delivery." — Chip McCabe, Lonesome Noise Kerri Powers was destined to be a musician from the start. While most kids her age spent their childhoods following frivolous pursuits, she spent hers reading, painting, writing stories, learning guitar and composing her first songs at the tender age of nine. By her own admission, she was a shy child, but her creative pursuits gave her an appreciation of the larger world around her. Those instincts seemed to have been bred naturally, given that there was undeniable talent embedded in her genes. Bing Crosby was a distant relative on her father’s side, while her mother’s relatives were said to be descended from author Herman Melville. Notably too, Powe… (read more)
This screening, featuring videos and selections by Andrew Norman Wilson, presents works in which artificial and animal intelligence play a role in the production of images to emphasize alien perspectives for human viewers. Wilson writes, "The works amount to an ethical disturbance in which the involvement of intelligent, amoral actors complicates a humanist legacy that understands the world as having been given for our needs and created in our image. From these revisionary vantage points, this stagnant legacy begins to contradict itself, amounting to an ecologically murderous, even suicidal tendency. I also sense an order of ought, a program for escape." Stan Brakhage MOTHLIGHT (1963, 4 min, 16mm. Preserved by Anthology Film Archives.) If you are not into gaming, you will probably get bored if I start explaining why high-quality switches and anti-ghosting capabilities are essential for a smooth gameplay. The short version is that the Cynosa Chroma and the Corsair K68 are a gift that will never be re-gifted.
I am glad the Consumer Reports assessment will result in needed Model 3 improvements. As was noted in the video, this is a win for Model 3 owners.

The Palm Court Lounge, with a restful cream and light blue color palette, is one of the best places to while away the day. It’s a fantastic light-filled space, with two large sections of glassed-in roof and swivel chairs strategically placed so you can look outside or watch the entertainment. The bar staff there is still professional and formal (as we’ve found most of the service) but with a little more give and small talk skills. We’ve enjoyed watching the changeable Rhine River from here; it’s a particularly moody spot when it rains, as you can see a storm from several angles. It’s like spending time in a lovely luxury hotel you don’t want to leave.
Hodges said it took NATO and coalition forces years to recognize that standards needed to be established to achieve interoperability, not just bridging capabilities so that one country’s radios can talk to another’s.
